Falher Library
April 2020 Falher Library / Bibliothèque Dentinger Local School Update – Now and Over the Summer

During the COVID-19 public library closure, the Peace Library System (PLS) is providing FREE library cards, providing access to online resources for any families that live in PLS member municipalities that do not already have a TRAC library card.

We have upgraded all of our LOCAL library cards to full TRAC access for the duration of our public closure; fees have been waived for all items that are signed out; and card expiries have been extended, so everyone that already has a library card can continue to access online resources.

École Routhier
– we appreciate your ongoing partnership, and will waive all membership costs for families that have already signed up with for a library card through the school this year.

Families that do not have high-speed internet at home can use their personal device and library card to use the Library’s WiFi from the safety of their parked car (outside our building).

Staff are working from home to help people with how to access and use library e-resources. Online guides are available in French for many, thanks to the recent FCC-funded BiblioTECH en français project. https://www.falherlibrary.ab.ca/Using-the-Library/BiblioTECH. Scroll to the bottom of the page to access the brochures for TRAC, Libby, Lynda.com, NoveList, Overdrive, Press Reader and RBDigital in French. These same items are available in English under the e-resources tab.

Library programs have been replaced by increased online content, with links to safe things for kids and families to watch and do.

The Career Employment Resource Centre (CERC) also has moved to virtual service delivery, and our staff are working from home to help support our community during this difficult time.  Links to current government COVID-19 financial supports for both students and their families are being updated here as changes are announced.  For students that are looking for work this summer, an online Job Board is being developed to highlight local opportunities.

Over the Summer

The TD Summer Reading Program always has had an online component; for 2020 this is being expanded, to support libraries and families in case service disruptions and physical distancing measures continue into the summer. We are planning to offer a Summer Reading Program, but anticipate it will likely be offered as online / virtual programs by our staff this summer vs. in-library.

Updates and detailed contact information are posted on: Our website www.falherlibrary.ab.ca, Facebook page www.facebook.com/FalherBibliotheque, and the Smoky River Community Events Calendar https://smokyriverregion.com/play/en/calendar.

We ask you to share this information to your staff and school families to help ensure they know these resources are available to support them during this difficult time - now, and over the summer.

Thank you for all you do & for working with us to support our communities!
